How to play golf Pt. 5 (Golf Digest)

Trying to play a course called Stonewater this weekend. Keep your fingers crossed for me. The theme of the year has been wet and I’m hoping to buck the trend. I think I’ve played like 4-6 rounds so far this year and only one of said rounds has been dry. I love Ohio and all, but this needs to change. Southern Ohio is all blooming and warm, but we’re still gray and gloomy in Northeast Ohio. Sweet.

Olympic golf tournament? (Geoff Shackelford)

The golf tournament of all golf tournaments, The Masters. It’s finally here!

Day 1 made me incredibly depressed. Alvaro Quiros, who is my age and Rory McIlroy, who is twenty fucking one, are in the lead. Sigh. Anyway on to the action…

Wow does this field suck.  I don’t mean to be a dick, but do you know how I know a field sucks?  When Kevin Streelman is leading.  Oh, and yes this thing is running late because I and my fellow TG authors are idiots.  See, we usually exchange a bunch of emails with our picks in there, and, like every other week, we had em all ready to go only…yea, nobody stepped up and wrote the post.

It happens.  It’s the fuckin’ Wyndham.  Fuck it…there’s more important shit to worry about like the Ryder Cup and making sure the PGA never returns to Whistling Straits again to write up a picks post for a tournament where the highest ranked player is a busted up Anthony Kim (and the only other top 30 player is the eminently boring Carl Pettersson).  But better late then never, right?

Anyways…I have a big ass lead thanks to my man Bubba.  Sure, Lefty is still hanging around, but lets face it, Southerners usually give up and quit, so it’s only a matter of time until he gives up and the lead is safely in this capable, tenacious Ohesian’s hands for good.  Lets get to the standings and then to the picks.

  1. Wire-to-wire096 – 259
  2. Lefty – 479
  3. AC – 629
  4. Schneider – 647
  5. Tips – 678
  6. JayV – 731
  7. no balatas – 813

Hey, can anyone tell me if no. 18 is a hard hole?  I don’t think I heard Johnny Miller or Dan Hicks tell us once.  OK, I’ll lay off of them for a little bit, especially since it was such a beast (par 4′s averaging over 5 shots per hole are not common) and since they did a pretty decent job overall.

So…

Howabout that playoff?  EXCITING!  Well, until JB hit his drive into the water and let Paul Casey coast to his first win on US soil.  This year’s Shell Houston Open was a freaking rollercoaster with as many guys making huge charges as there were bursting into flames.  Read on for the full recap.

Everything you missed from Saturday’s third round at the Chevron World Challenge.

  • Jim Furyk continues to amaze me and it’s not because of his “phone booth” swing. He had a chance to cushion his lead on 18 and go into day 4 with a 1-2 shot lead. Instead, he pulled a “me” and donated his 2nd shot to the drink. I know how you feel, Jim…I have a phobia of water too. Furyk pulled the string too much from the drop and then missed his putt to give him a double and a 70 for the day. He’s currently at -7 and should make for an interesting Sunday.
  • Villegas picked up where he left off and continued to plat consistent golf. By the way, what does he have against regular-sized bills on his hats? He started to look a little shaky on the 16th par 5. His tee shot landed directly in the fairway bunker and his out shot was a terrible effort that went about 30 yards into the rough. I know it wasn’t a great lie in the sand but it was still a bad shot. luckily for him, he stuck his 3rd shot withing striking distance from the pin and penciled in a par. I guess that is why these guys are doing what they do and I am doing what I do…sit on the couch and watch in awe. I still can’t get over his hats, though. Camilo finished with a 69 (giggedy) and is 2 shots off the lead. (more…)
