This week’s tournament is the Transitions Championship, which is formerly the Tampa Bay Classic and will be played at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club. Last year Jim Furyk notched the victory at -13 in a pretty decent field. Also finishing in the top 10 last year: KJ Choi, Bubby Watson, Nick Watney, Ratief Goosen, Luke Donald, Steve Stricker, and Padraig Harrington.
As we continue the Florida swing, Innisbrook is a 7340 yard, par 71 course, which ranks as the thirteenth hardest course on tour in 2011. The course has three par 5’s on the card and some relatively short par 4’s, but don’t expect extremely low scores. Innisbrook has some tight windows off the tee, keeping players form being too aggressive. The greens should be rolling at about an 11 on the Stimpmeter this weekend. The hardest hole is the par 4, 16th at 475 yards with water lining the entire right side. The easiest hole is the par 5, double dogleg opening hole. Check out some of these stats:
Innisbrook is tied for the third fewest eagles, has the third shortest driving distance, has the lowest birdie or better percentage from the fairway, and has the third toughest set of finishing holes.
If I had go to out on a limb and predict a winner, it would be Bubba Watson. He missed last week’s event at Doral with the flu, but he placed third here last year. He destroys the ball and is currently leading the TOUR in greens, is first in driving distance (something that could prove beneficial this weekend), fourth in birdies, and eighth in eagles.
