The Week in Golf picture style (Devil Ball)

I woke up Saturday morning to hear the bad news of Seve Ballesteros’ passing. There is going to be a lot of Seve talk for the next few days and hopefully I’ll get some thoughts together  from the Tuna guys. But, there will be a ton of Seve in todays links, so I’m just going to put the title of the article with the link.

Ended making it to Stonewater this weekend with Mr. 096 and another friend. Weather was amazing and go figure, I wake up today to see 65 and sunny. First email of the day to Spencer… “Ugh, fuck this. Let’s go golfing”.  Shot 84 and am ecstatic. Then Mr. 096 and I decided to wake up butt-ass early Sunday morning and get a round of 18 in before the Mother’s Day festivities began.  We teed off at Fowler’s Mill at 7:18 and finished up by 11:15. I wish every round could be played that quickly.

What’s new this week? Well, I’m going to try to stop chewing tobacco and start P90X (again) today. It’s gonna be an interesting time in Real AC land, but it’s all for the better. I know I’m going to end up only getting like 3-6 weeks through P90X before we give up on it (again). Hopefully, the no dip thing works out better… Anyway enough from me. Enjoy the Monday reading.

Back in 2007, Padraig Harrington defeated Sergio Garcia in the British Open in a four hole playoff at Carnoustie. This was his first Major Championship victory. Paddy went on to win the British Open the following year. He also won the PGA Championship that year. The person he defeated for the 2008 PGA Championship was none other than Sergio Garcia… again. (Poor Sergio, so close.)

Well, it appears there are no hard feelings between the two golfers as they were seen together at the Chengdu Research Base in China. Both players are in China for the Volvo China Open at Luxehills International Country Club.

The European Tour stars and Ryder Cup teammates visited Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, where they held Ya Yun, a seven month-old cub which is part of the largest captive born Giant Panda population in the world.

I really have no idea if the two golfers ever disliked each other, but regardless, who could stay mad with a baby panda in the room?

The golf tournament of all golf tournaments, The Masters. It’s finally here!

Day 1 made me incredibly depressed. Alvaro Quiros, who is my age and Rory McIlroy, who is twenty fucking one, are in the lead. Sigh. Anyway on to the action…

Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club

This week’s tournament is the Transitions Championship, which is formerly the Tampa Bay Classic and will be played at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club. Last year Jim Furyk notched the victory at -13 in a pretty decent field. Also finishing in the top 10 last year: KJ Choi, Bubby Watson, Nick Watney, Ratief Goosen, Luke Donald, Steve Stricker, and Padraig Harrington.

A Cuban Cohiba? Why yes, I'll take one of those for my victory cigar!

Conichiwa golf fans, time for everyone’s favorite segment, the picks.

This week, we’re adding our latest correspondent, JayV to the running, and while it might seem dickish to give him last place points so late in the game, if anyone can conjure up the minor miracle it’ll take to unseat yours truly, it’s Jay.

And while we’re welcoming Jay, I’d also like to point out the incredible feat achieved by our very own Schneider.  This week, the impossible was proven possible as Mr. Schneider managed to miss a cut in an event without a cut.  Shit like that doesn’t happen everyday, my pretties, and honestly, my belief in the supernatural has been reinforced.  It’s not everyday that you get to witness the hand of God in action, so savor the flavor.

Anyways…here are the current standings.

  1. Savant096 – 257
  2. Lefty – 476
  3. AC – 529
  4. Schneider – 629
  5. Tips – 650
  6. Old man penna – 713
  7. JayV – 713

Now onto the picks… (more…)

We’ve been too nice (by nice I mean, haven’t written anything at all) so I’m going to muck this place up a bit.  Everyone has their favorites and least favorites in any avenue of sport, and golf is no different.  There are some people who love Davis Love III.  I am one of them, but I know for a fact that AC over there (/points over there) hates DLIII for various reasons that only he can explain.  So today, I thought it’d be a nice gesture to go over some of the golfers I personally don’t like (not including Stuart Appleby, who I covered earlier this week).

Why?  Why not?   (more…)
