I woke up Saturday morning to hear the bad news of Seve Ballesteros’ passing. There is going to be a lot of Seve talk for the next few days and hopefully I’ll get some thoughts together  from the Tuna guys. But, there will be a ton of Seve in todays links, so I’m just going to put the title of the article with the link.

Ended making it to Stonewater this weekend with Mr. 096 and another friend. Weather was amazing and go figure, I wake up today to see 65 and sunny. First email of the day to Spencer… “Ugh, fuck this. Let’s go golfing”.  Shot 84 and am ecstatic. Then Mr. 096 and I decided to wake up butt-ass early Sunday morning and get a round of 18 in before the Mother’s Day festivities began.  We teed off at Fowler’s Mill at 7:18 and finished up by 11:15. I wish every round could be played that quickly.

What’s new this week? Well, I’m going to try to stop chewing tobacco and start P90X (again) today. It’s gonna be an interesting time in Real AC land, but it’s all for the better. I know I’m going to end up only getting like 3-6 weeks through P90X before we give up on it (again). Hopefully, the no dip thing works out better… Anyway enough from me. Enjoy the Monday reading.

Tiger Woods has committed to THE Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, which starts Thursday May 12. I did not expect to see Mr. Woods until the US Open at the earliest, but the big purse must have expedited his recovery process. Either that or his water treatment and relaxation are working. Or maybe he’s just nailing some more sluts? Personally, I don’t care the reason and neither should you.

Tiger injured a ligament and Achilles tendon in his left knee. The same knee that has been operated on four times, most recently after the 2008 US Open at Torrey Pines. This should serve as a nice warm up for the US Open; which, as you know, I have predicted a TW victory. I’m going to gloat so bad when he wins.

This week’s tournament is the “5th major” at the PLAYERS Championship and is held at the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass. The course will be playing at a par 72 and 7215 yards. Last year Sergio Garcia defeated Paul Goydos in a playoff to take the title. For his victory last year Garcia pocketed $1.71 million. On a side note, if you have some free time and do not subscribe to Golf Digest, check out this article on Goydos. It’s a great read about Paul and the loss of his ex-wife Wendy and her battle with chronic headaches and addiction. Sawgrass provides a great layout for one of the most exciting tournaments of the year with two awesome closing holes that provide some very interesting finishes, ask Sean O’Hair. In 2007 O’Hair plunked two into the water, one from the tee and the other from the drop zone to finish with a quadruple bogey seven on the infamous island green, 17th hole.

The winning score last year was -5. And scores this year should be relatively similar, maybe -10. Some of the other players who finished well last year: Ernie Els T6, J.B. Holmes T10, Fred Couples T15, Kenny Perry T15, Stewart Cink T21, Phil Mickelson T21, and Jim Furyk T27. This year you can expect to see the usual big names at the top of the board: Tiger, Phil, Sergio, Perry, Ogilvy… Some other storylines to follow this weekend: Chad Campbell’s follow-up performance to the Masters and a T10 finish here last year, Tiger’s return to Sawgrass and not winning there since 2001, Phil Mickelson trying to take home another title in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL winning in 2007, and will Sergio’s putter speak Spanish this week allowing him to take home back to back titles. Some key pairings: Tiger, Ernie, and Justin Leonard, Phil, Adam Scott, and Dustin Johnson, Sergio, Zach Johnson, and K.J. Choi, and Ogilvy, Paddy, and Stricker. Picks after the jump.
